Willowdale Elementary School Home Page

The ELL program at Millard is unique. This uniqueness is found in our ELL population, parental commitment to home, neighborhood and work communities and the academic achievements of ELL students. Many ELL programs are primarily made up of two or three different cultures.ssssssss Millard students come from a variety of countries (28), many different cultures, and speak other languages (26) besides English.

Entrance into the program is based on a language proficiency test. This test provides ELL staff with background information on the students' ability in vocabulary, speaking, reading, writing, and listening. If the student qualifies for the program, the ELL teacher prepares extensive language objectives based on the students needs. A student has natural strengths and weaknesses in all of the above five areas just as a native speaker does. An ELL student's rate of growth in each area will also vary. This does not indicate a learning or language disabliity. It represents the uniqueness of the student.

Willowdale's ELL teachers are Mrs. Cindy Wallace and Ms. Lorene Larsen.
